Ottoman Empire 2 1913

There has been no sign of war for the past couple of years. There has now been a word going around about the assasination of the Archduke. If these rumors came out to be true, what would that leave my allies to do? What will Austria Hungary do? If they get involved in war that means we will too. We are their allies. We told them that if they were involved in war, we would help them. If all the central powers mobilize and get in this war, who knows what will happen to all the other countries in between. We need to get as many of the neutral countries on our side. It will make our job so much easier. If we get in this war, we are going to win. We will defeat our enemies. Tomorrow, there is a press conference and we will see if we are getting into this war or not. We will see who mobilizes and who doesn’t. Just hope you know that if one of the Central Powers mobilizes, you get the whole team. This Means War!

Ottoman Empire 2 1914

So we decided to mobilize. All thanks to the Serbians. Austria-Hungary, our allies, had declared war on Serbia for what they did to the Archduke. If Serbia wants war, we will give it to them. Us as the Central Powers will take over the whole land of Europe and take every country one by one. We have the army to take down anyone. The Ottoman Empire as well as Austria Hungary don’t have any Navy while Germany has 1,000 boats and submarines. Even though the Central powers have a small navy but we don’t need a navy to win. We have troops and you (Allies) don’t. Have fun losing. What are the allies alliance members going to do about it? What will the neutrals do? Are they going to come in and save the day? We will most certainly take them down as well. Allies, you better watch your back! Not only you Allies, but Serbia, you are next. You are our first target!

Ottoman Empire 2 1915

Not only did our armies win wars, but we took down as many men of the allies as possible. The battles that we lost, we weakened the allies armies so that we will beat you the next time. We have a new army that will be better than yours. I will take my land from the Blakans. Once we do this, The Ottoman Empire will be more as powerful as they once were. Once we take back the Balkans, we will have all of our original territory. We already took Crimea back from Russia. Once we get the Balkans, the Ottoman Empire will be bigger and more powerful than it once was. We will take Northern Africa and Russia. I will continue to attack France and Italy. Russia is slowly weakening and is going to fall in a couple of years. The Central Powers will then have that territory as well. Russia and France, we are coming for you and you have nothing to do against it!

Ottoman Empire 2 1916

Our empire is growing slowly. We took back the Balkan states because our army was more powerful than their weak troops. Russia is going to be our next target because their army is really weak. I keep building up my troops and Germany keeps building up their troops. We are going to take Russia by attacking from both sides. This is the same strategy that France and Russia had on Germany. Obviously that didn’t work. We have lost some land due to the lack of troops and the Allies having so many countries and troops. Don’t worry, we will still take back the land that we just lost. We didn’t have to lose any troops getting the land, but you did. Great job Great Britain! Way to waste your men for nothing. Are we gonna win the war? At the moment, I have no clue. We looked like we had a clear path towards victory, but the allies navy just kept bringing in troops. We are going to win this war! I would be scared if I were you Russia, you are next!

Ottoman Empire 2 1917

We are slowly attacking France and wasting the troops of France, USA, and Great Britain. All of the neutral countries have joined the allies in war so it is making us as the Central Powers look even greater than we are. Our troops are bigger and better than everyone else’s. We are planning on slowly attacking France so that we can get their capital and we will also start to slowly move into Russia and take their capital as well. Once we take over Russia, it will allow us to focus more on France. It will allow us to send more and more powerful troops into France to defeat them. Will we lose some of our men in the battle? 100% we will, but we will still be victorious at the end of the day. I just hope the Allies realize that they aren’t as good as us. I hope that the Allies realize that even if we don’t have boats, we can still be as powerful on land.

Ottoman Empire 2 1918

With war coming to an end, we wanted to make one final push towards victory. Even though there was no clear winner to this war, we tore apart the allies land. We took huge chunks out of the allies troops as well. If the war kept going, the Central Powers were going to take over all of France because that was all that was left. We were going to win this war. We would have taken our troops from the Ottoman Empire and brought them through the Suez Canal and taken over Egypt, Libya, and French North Africa. We would have pinched France like them and Russia tried to do on Germany. Did we have non-believers? We most definitely did have non-believers who thought that we couldn’t do it. No one thought that Russia would fall or especially create a civil war within their own capital.

The Point of View of France’s Foreign Minister

WWI JOURNAL

A TIME OF TOTAL WAR

France 8

YEAR 1913

To start the year of 1913, it is no surprise that it will be a  challenging war. As Foreign Minister of France, I know how  important each and every decision the President and I make is. Our  alliance made with Belgium today was the start to WWI for us. This  ensures that we will send defense if Belgium is attacked. Once we  mobilize our troops tomorrow I will feel much more secure when it  comes to Germany taking action against us. The President and I plan  to keep close with our alliances and make decisions as a team to be  successful. We know that we can’t win the war without the help of  our allies. Today was a surplus of thinking ahead and making sure  we will be as prepared as possible for the next war years coming.  This will be no easy challenge for us, but we strongly believe that  with smart movement of our troops and with helping each and every  one of our allies, we will be able to make an impact. The allied  powers have high hopes for WW1.

France 8

YEAR 1914

The start of 1914 was slow moving. This was a bit nerve  wracking for us Allies, because we had no clue what the Central  powers had up their sleeves. The first few battles did not affect us,  so we choose to highlight our own country and securing it for safety.  We chose to move troops inward and way from the coastlines to  protect our borders. Our reasoning behind this was because we do  not feel threatened by our coastlines. We feel more danger by the  borders because we have Germany and Austria-Hungary that could  come for us. As an alliance we came up with and strategized for our  first battle. It was a little defeating seeing Russia lose to the first  battle in the war so easily. But I think our alliance did and  outstanding job making a comeback. As a group we started to plan  for the attack on the Ottoman Empire. We began to prepare troops to  travel by sea over to began the attack. Both the President and I were  very eager to see Italy join our alliance. We feel they have a lot to  offer, including a shared border with Austria-Hungary. This will  help us attack them in the future. They also have an inside look on  the Central Powers motives and strategies as the Central Powers  were working to get Italy in with them. I see success in the years  coming.

France 8

YEAR 1915

1915 was the most eventful year yet. Here we saw every country  in the Allied powers getting involved in battles and helping each  other out. To start off, we were more focused on helping other  countries defend from invasions and planning for attack. We did not  worry about defense for France, as we feel the entire country is off  the Radar of the Central Powers. We moved troops into another  allied country for the first time, which was a huge stepping stone for  us. This felt like a true start to the war for France. We moved over  troops to Italy as backup as we were suspecting an invasion from  Austria-Hungary. We were indeed correct. This battle we were  successful, managing to hold off the central powers. The year 1915  was a successful year for us Allied Powers. We also developed  poison gas, which was a game changer for battle. We helped Serbia  hold off Austria-Hungary yet again. I feel it was our luck though as  they chose to not use poison gas. It was a close battle. Finally our  biggest success was winning part of the Ottoman Empire. This was  the battle that we had been preparing for, for 2 years. We were  successful in doing so and managed to get Bulgaria too. I am proud  to be an Allied Power, and feel we have conquered so much, and are  still not finished.

France 8

YEAR 1916

This year was something else, to say the least. As soon as we  started this year, The President and I were bombarded by the rest of  our group to sign this treaty. The treaty was to make peace with  Germany. We as leaders of France were extremely hesitant and  knew that this HAD to be violating more than just our objectives.  After talking things over and deeply thinking about this, we chose to  agree. Our reasoning behind this was because we were the last  country in the Allied Powers to sign and without our signature, we  were afraid to cause conflict with the rest of the alliance. If we chose  to decline the treaty, we were potentially risking loosing 3 of our  objectives. Plus we just straight up knew that isn’t what we were to  be doing in the first place. It was a tough decision for us, but we  chose to sign. It ended up throwing Germany out of the game, which  I guess was a bonus for us. Later that year we were victorious with  the Russians as the Central powers attacked us in Russia. That  whole year kind of honestly through us off, but we came to  realization that we needed to focus on our original country, before  we put the alliance first. So that is what we plan to do for the years  coming.

France 8

YEAR 1917

This year, France decided we shall focus on our individual  country. We focused on how we were going to achieve each and  every one of our objectives. We got in touch with the United  States, and learned that they wanted to take a part of Germany  too. We formed a secret alliance with the US and it was this year,  1917, that it officially became one of us. We are gaining many  countries that benefit France and we all are plotting something  big. This year overall was a year of preparation and placement.  We prepared our troops to go after Germany and Austria Hungary. We have troops waiting in Russia, Romania, Italy and  France. The Unites States and us have come to an agreement to  go after the same place, G2. With this we can finally achieve our  5th and final objective. All of the allied power troops are patiently  but also eagerly ready to take on war. We have completely  surrounded the Central Powers. We are ready for year 1918.

France 8

YEAR 1918

And just like that, WWI is over. As foreign minister of France  I am more than impressed with how both the President and I went  through this war. To end things off, both the United states and I  had plotted a huge, game changing attack. Unfortunately we lost  time within the snap of a finger. We managed to get our troops  moved and planned to carry out our attack on Germany. We were  devastated to learn we would no longer receive an offensive turn.  We were forced to make quick thoughtless decisions. This put our  countries leaders, including myself into a quick panic and we  made decisions that was going to help us in the next turn, little  did we know it would end shortly after. The allied powers as a  whole worked tremendously together and there are was nobody  else both the President and I would want to work with. Although  the war did not end that way would have liked to, looking back  we were more than happy with our success. We managed to  achieve 5 of the 6 objectives. We will call this a win for France.

WWI Simulation Student Journal: Austria-Hungary

Austria-Hungary 1913 8th

There is lots of pressure in Europe. Tension is building in the European countries and war is brewing. The Slavs in Austria-Hungary are angered and I fear they will attempt to do something terrible. Germany is growing and I believe if war does break out they will be very successful with a large and incredibly strong army. My main plan is to build up my borders and wipe out Serbia while helping Germany fight a battle on 2 fronts.

Austria-Hungary 1914 8th

With the start of war all seemed well. We had a large mass of troops and our German friends were successful in their expansion to the east against the Russians. One thing I am afraid of is France and Italy ganging up on the western borders of Austria. With a large amount of mobilized armies I spread them out between all three regions leaving a large quantity of armies in the capitol fearing that Italy would join with the allies and double cross us. My plan currently is to use German troops to help defend Austrian Borders from surrounding countries that might start war. We have a secret alliance with Bulgaria and are hoping they will help us against Serbia and not flip sides.

Austria-Hungary 1915 8th

With the start of 1915 Italy has shown their true colors and sided with the allies. The mobilization of troops gave us a large mass of troops to attack with. France as I feared helped Italy reinforce the Italian capitol. We still decided to attack seeing as we still had them outnumbered. Unfortunately we could not take the capital and had lost a very large amount of troops. With Bulgaria also announcing they would be loyal to the central powers we thought it would be safe to attack Serbia. With Austrian, German, and Bulgarian troops attacking Serbia we still could not come out victorious. Our German allies continue to march east and weaken Russia. All while the Russians attempt to wipe out the Ottomans. The Ottomans and Austria did successfully defend the eastern Ottoman region from Russia. However, through many troops coming in by sea the Ottoman and Bulgarian capital was taken by the allies. 1915 was tough for the central powers. We lost these battles, but we will win the war.

Austria-Hungary 1916 8th

With the start of 1916 Germany and Russia decided they were going to make a peace treaty. The agreement entailed that Germany would go neutral and leave the central powers. They would move all of their armies out of Austria and force their armies back west out of Russian territories. Doing this they went against their two of their main objectives and the power over Germany switched to the Ottomans and Austria. The leaders of Germany were exiled. The allies all of the sudden were in shock and tactics were changed. With all of the excitement we weren’t ready for the blow in the southeast. Even with the control of the German troops there was no way of helping the trapped Ottoman armies. The leftover Ottomans and my armies decided to push to take back the capitol. The push failed but greatly weakened the armies at the Ottoman capitol. With only Austria-Hungary and Germany left the central powers chances weren’t looking great.

Austria-Hungary 1917 8th

Romania and the U.S. now side with the Allies. Since I controlled Germany and my own armies I decided I needed to pull German armies out of Russia to maintain all of the original territories. As I was doing this, Russia started to push back east so I decided to make a stand with a decent sized German army to weaken the oncoming Russians. With an amazing defense the central powers were defeated but still took out a massive chunk of the Russian army. I used German troops to heavily guard the borders which make it tough for the allies to try and push into the central powers’ territories. I believe that the British and United States navy are going to bring troops into Germany using the sea in the north. Hopefully using the mobilization of 1918 I can easily defend against an attack. I will need to see how the allies move armies to create a plan to defend the central powers’ current territories. I also want to try and keep in mind that I want to annihilate Serbia. I will have to see how 1918 starts.

Austria-Hungary 1918 8th

War breaks out in the south!!! My plan at the start of 1918 is to finally take out Serbia. My strategy was to use a very small army to distract the armies in Romania to make it impossible for them to help defend Serbia. With a large Austrian army with a small number of Germans and poison gas, we finally succeeded in taking out the Serbians. I then strengthened my territories with no defending armies and waited to make my next move until I could see what the allies would do in response to my move. Sure enough they decided to start making movements. First off Russia tried taking their lost territory controlled by the central powers. My idea earlier was to leave a small reserve of troops there to let them think they can have it. It worked, they sent a small Russian and a very small French army to try and take it back. I seized my opportunity and pushed in a small reserve of reinforcements to easily defend with German troops. I held the Russians in the east. In addition the French and Italians decided to push into southern Austria-Hungary. They succeeded in taking the land, but it cost about half of  their troops. I then decided it was time to strike back. I used the German navy and wiped out the United States navy in the north. I wanted to push deep into the south. I took Romania with ease and with all of the action the war was over.

WWI Simulation Student Journal: Great Britain

1913. Looking at the situation, it seems like I need to establish Naval Supremacy ASAP. The Mediterranean Fleet can likely take on the Austro-Hungarians without needing Italy’s help, and the North Sea Fleets can likely cripple any attacks on them by the Germans, and the Atlantic Fleet can reinforce it, that’ll be one of my first moves. Getting Italy on our side should be of the utmost importance given its power, getting the Balkans to help would be great, the US will be harder to convince but also takes a priority. I plan to call a meeting ASAP to talk strategy before we make any moves. Serbia should be abandoned unless we get most of the Balkans on our side, while France should be reinforced and reinforcing Russia will have to wait, France is far more important. Naval superiority, if established, will allow us free movement around Europe and the ability to possibly take the Ottoman Empire. I am extremely concerned about Great Britain’s Navy size after this, however, given that it appears I can’t build a new fleet and what’s left won’t be enough for a Gallipoli 2.0. I also heavily worry about North Africa falling to the Ottomans given our weak troop strength. Update: Italy seems to be more than happy to consider my offers of much of Austria-Hungary in exchange for assistance, Greece is very receptive to offers to Ally with my very generous offers of a larger than OTL Treaty of Sevres, Portugal actually approached us about guaranteeing our Alliance, though they might not join for a year or two. Belgium understands France will likely be attacked by Germany through Belgium, and wants us to help defend Belgium along with France. I said yes, but the French agreed with me afterwards that France’s territories, mainly F1, are far more important than Belgium and troops shouldn’t be thrown away defending Belgium when it greatly weakens France. The Russians were not very happy when I told them that taking the Dardanelles(O1) would have to wait several turns. I seriously hope America joins ASAP. My team has created a program to share our intelligence with each other. Our best guesses at enemy troop ratings based on battles will be recorded, and we are sharing our troop ratings to further coordinate our strategies, so we understand each other’s reasoning and can plan better using forces other than our own countries’ forces. At the request of the other leaders in my Alliance, I created a revolutionary formula designed to give us a rough idea of whether we can win battles. We believe this will greatly improve our decision making, allowing us to better decide where to attack and defend.

1914. We need to take the Ottoman Empire to help Russia, we’re moving troops and ships to make that happen. The Germans won’t attack France, so we’re drawing their troops and we can’t send our British troops or they could take the British Isles. Things look bad, we are worried that Italy’s prior commitment to our alliance isn’t legitimate. We’re building up for an attack on O1 to save Russia, but that means everyone has to hold out until then. Our Alliance is going through growing pains, no one really knows what to do. I’ve been somewhat forced into the position of being the leader of my Alliance. Russia is being taken over, with my blessing they have pulled back to R1 to try to survive the CP onslaught. I’m extremely worried about Russia’s ability to survive, our main priority is helping them. Nothing much else happened this turn.

1915. This turn, our plan is to take the Dardanelles to relieve Russia, allowing their troop ratings to go up to a (still paltry) 3. We’re going to use our troops in southern France, convoyed by our navies in the Mediterranean, to take O1. The Italians, despite the doubts of my foreign minister and I, held up their end of the agreement and have declared war on the Central Powers. Their foreign minister has proved to be very valuable, coming up with more ideas than a lot of the rest of my alliance. We will have to move some troops to help them, but they will still be a net gain to have on our side. I’ll update this after the turn. We took the Dardanelles! The Ottomans foolishly moved most of their forces to O2 to fight the Russians, but with an admittedly costly attack, the Russians kept them from being able to help. After that, our masterstroke of a move took the Dardanelles despite being down 50% due to having to reinforce I1 with much of our expeditionary force. The always bright Serbians, still fighting despite barely beating back a massive Austrian attack, made a last second move to take over Bulgaria, which had sacrificed its army in a failed attempt to take the Dardanelles! I feel super relieved, in 1916 we will try to exploit our new gains!

1916.  This year was great. Ottoman stupidity led to us taking them out, while we cautiously maneuvered our way into advantageous positions. Russia will survive this year and likely the war. I’m particularly happy with the condition of the British Empire at the moment. Our colonies are safe, we haven’t lost millions of men, and we haven’t bankrupted ourselves trying to prop up the Alliance. We have kept a large standing force and suffered some casualties, but not to the extent that an entire generation of men is crippled and all of our money is used up. Not much happened beyond the Ottomans succumbing to us and us beating off some minor attacks. The biggest event was the German leadership agreeing to a peace treaty with us. However, somehow, despite their universal popularity, they were deposed in a coup. I was infuriated by this, so much bloodshed and destruction could have been avoided by this treaty.

1917. This year was a lot of maneuvering. The biggest events were several neutrals joining us in the war and Russia regaining R2 to put some space between the Germans and R1. My nations are maneuvering their troops. Realizing that the Germans will never attack France, our armies stationed there are beginning the journey south to the Austrian Front. We have a very solid position, with all of the Balkans under our control, Russia firmly not about to lose, France and Britain not even threatened, and Italy pretty safe. We are moving Armies to hit Austria-Hungary and hopefully win the war. The United States has finally given us armies with decent ratings so we can go on the offensive without needing thousands more troops than the Central Powers.

1918. This year was very frustrating. Using our freeze move against us, the Central Powers captured Romania and Serbia. We briefly had success by taking A2, but they recaptured it. The Italians and Serbians bungled their attempt to retake Serbia by attacking Serbia without freezing the nearby enemy troops. The Central Powers got one extra turn compared to us, however. If we’d had that turn, A2 would likely have held for good by us, and Serbia may have been regained. If I had to redo the game, I would have been way more aggressive and moved more troops to Italy sooner. I feel like our strategy with Russia was sound, they lost some land but survived. I also feel that compared to our World War One, Great Britain is in way better shape. We lost some troops, but weren’t gutted like in World War One, most of that generation is alive and we didn’t have to re-equip our Army after it got crippled multiple times like in our World War One. We won the war because Russia survived, and we eliminated a major Central Powers country and one minor one, while only losing some Russian territory and two minor countries ourselves, and being on the verge of finally overpowering them at the end.

WWI Simulation Student Journal: United States

United States, Period 8, 1913

A war just broke out between Austria-Hungary and Serbia. It is in my best interest to lay low and not be in the middle of this breakout. If needed, my naval troops can bring support for the Allies. However, I intend not to move any of my troops to fight against countries during this war. To ensure that this happens, I need to make peace agreements with both the allies as well as the central powers in class tomorrow. Another decision that needs to be made is whether or not I should mobilize our army. By doing this, it will allow me to get more troops available for the future, but might cause tensions to arise within other countries.

United States, Period 8, 1914

Tensions are starting to arise as countries are starting to make secret alliances with each other, with whispers about going to war. I quickly began to put my plan into action. I secretly made an alliance with both the Allies and the Central Powers, allowing peace from the United States. Even though I made plans of peace, I made the decision to mobilize my troops. I need to be prepared for anything that may happen, and the Allies will be able to use my troops in a couple of years when needed. My country’s industrialization is striving during time, which made the decision of staying out of this war very easy. The Central Powers just announced war, and are taking over land from the Allies, staying true of our alliance together. During this time, the Allies are moving their navy troops to create a more dominant sea force, as well as moving their army troops to a more secure area to insure protection for their capitals. I need to be ready to move my navy troops to help the Allies if another war breaks out in the future, however it would be best to not move any of my troops until 1917.

United States, Period 8, 1915

As more land is being taken and conquered by other countries, the more time is running out for my country’s peace. I plan on talking more to Great Britain as well as France tomorrow during class. I want to insure our alliance, and begin a battle plan. I want to touch base with them to see how many troops of mine that they will need. I also need to make sure that I don’t move my troops until 1917, which is when they plan on going to war. The longer that I wait to use my troops in war, the better outcome for my country. The Allies were able to maintain their control of Serbia after the attack from the Central Powers, which means they are gaining more power and more troops for future attacks. This will be beneficial to me because in the end, I will side with the Allies. Furthermore, if they gain more power, so will I.

United States, Period 8, 1916

I’m on edge as Great Britain pulls me into a secret meeting, especially after the announcement of peace with the German leaders as the Austria-Hungary president takes over Germany’s power. This was shocking at first, however this move was beneficial to me. With the German leaders gone, that is less leaders for me to negotiate with, let alone one less leader that I have to face after I break my promise of peace with the Central Powers. However, this could also be bad for the United States and the Allies in the future as well. As Austria-Hungary’s leaders gain the power of Germany, they can manipulate and control thousands of troops for their benefit. Putting this aside, in my meeting with Great Britain we agree to align together to help take Germany’s territory. Furthermore, France and I were able to come to the conclusion that in order to win this war, I need to move all of my troops into F1 of France’s capital. This will ensure that we will be able to have enough troops to move around wherever needed, to conquer Germany’s territory within the next year.

United States, Period 8, 1917

The Central Powers are quickly moving their troops towards Russia, in hopes of taking the capital. As Russia successfully defended their country, we quickly needed to move our troops to prepare for battle. I made the decision to move all of my troops using the British navy to land in France’s capital. To prepare for future battles, I also made the decision to move my navy across to the North Sea Zone. By doing this, my chances of attacking Germany were a lot higher than if I would have left my navy in the Atlantic Ocean. However, my alliance and I are in a tough position. We can’t move our troops through Belgium due to the inability to negotiate a common agreement to pass through their country. Another option that we are considering is to move our troops through Ardennes Forest. The problem with doing this is that we are only able to move 1,000 of our troops through there at a time. If we did this, Germany’s troops would overpower our 1,000 troops, and we would be unsuccessful in conquering their land. The only other option that we have left, is to move our troops to Italy’s capital to provide support in attacking Austria-Hungary. If we are able to conquer parts of Austria-Hungary, we would easily be able to move our troops through that land to attack Germany.

United States, Period 8, 1918

The German and Austrian troops are closing in on us. They have found a way to conquer Serbia and Romania by moving in all of their troops for battle. Although we lost land, this was beneficial for us by having them lose a great number of troops that would have been used to block my alliance from attacking Germany. We need to quickly move my troops from the capital of France, and march them down to the capital of Italy instead. If the Allies get enough troops down to Italy, we would be successful in conquering A1 of Austria-Hungary. If we are able to conquer this land, I would be one step closer to attacking Germany’s territory.

Halt! We are under attack by the German navy in the North Sea Zone! My troops need to stay strong during this battle to keep our stance near the German capital. We have a great chance of losing this battle due to the German navy being stronger than ours.

As I predicted, we lost all of our naval troops in the battle against Germany. Even though we lost most of our naval troops, this can be used to our advantage. If the Germans attacked our navy in the North Sea Zone, that means that Germany thinks we are using the sea to get to their territory. If they believe we are attacking their capital, they will stabilize most of their troops in G1. By doing this, they will leave G2 with very little troops for defending.

As the end of the year is closing in, we are still under attack from the Central Powers. The Central Powers are trying to invade parts of Italy, being unsuccessful due to the great amount of imbalance in the troops. Given the number of troops that the Central Powers started this year with, I am proud of how far the Allies have gotten and how many troops we were able to take out. At the end of this war, I am proud to be apart of the Allies!

WWI Simulation Student Journal: Ottoman Empire

Ottoman Empire 8 1913

The end is nigh for the people of the Ottoman Empire. The rising tension is so thick, you could cut it with a saber. I can see clearly war is on the horizon, and with a heavy heart I know I must do everything in my power to make sure my people are safe. Only time will tell. With this written down, I can finally reflect on the possible good that might have been given to us. As of this moment a successful defensive treaty has been made with Bulgaria, with hopefully more to come from Greece and Romania. It does worry me that Romania is slow on their responses, possibly because they’re trying to make a pact with Russia. I wish them the best of luck, for those peasants hold nothing but empty promises for any who try and help them. Even so, reports have reached my ears that they are trying to eradicate our Austro-Hungarian allies, along with the possibility of an attack on the strait. They are children playing a warriors game. They cannot hope to take that they deem important if they cannot see what is behind it. No matter what events may occur, the people of the Ottoman Empire will stand steadfast for we have no other choice.

Ottoman Empire 8 1914

The year has come and gone in the blink of an eye. While the Ottoman Empire has not personally made any offensive maneuvers against either the Russian peasants or our resilient neighbors of Greece or Romania, there has been success non the less. Our allies, the German Empire, have made astounding progress in the east against Russia while at the same time holding stalwarts against the French in the west. The information that worries me is that not only is Russia in full retreat, they are diverting more forces to the caucasus, mostly likely in preparation of a full bore assault to take the Dardanelles. If need be, it might be necessary to move Austro-Hungarian forces to reinforce the border. All I know is that the empire cannot fall if we hope fulfil our goals.

Ottoman Empire 8 1915

The year of 1915 shall be known as the year of complete failure for the Ottoman Empire and our allies. The year itself looked promising as the Germans pushed farther into Russia, arriving upon their capital before midyear. Along with this, the Bulgarians also joined on my behalf and would have served as worthy partners if it weren’t for their decimation at the hands of the Entente. They were willing to die for a people that weren’t even their own and it cost them dearly. The great capital of the empire was also lost in a storm of blood and steel to those devil French and British. We committed too many divisions to protect the Russian border, thus leaving our homeland open to invasion. For now our forces will have to hide in the far waste of the desert with our Austro-Hungarian allies. Reports have also reached my ears of the Italian dogs siding with the invaders. They were also soft bellied, waiting for the precise opportunity to join once they knew who the victor was. Along with this, there are also whispers of a failed assault by German and Austro-Hungarian legions on the region of Serbia. It is simply unfathomable that such a small nation and people could withstand the might of the Germany army. I think that it might be time to consider an armistice with the United Kingdom. Better to survive with our lives than taking our dignity to our graves.

Ottoman Empire 8 1916

Let it be known in the history books that fortune favors the bold. After the failed coup by the German leadership, I concluded that there is no honor in surrendering ourselves to pretentious outsiders like the British or French. I tasked my remaining generals with their last order: an all out assault to recapture our homeland. It hurts my heart to say that it was a failed plan knowing so many great men died fighting for what they believed in. I now write these entries from my estate behind allied lines in Germany, and will also be serving as a military advisor to the Kaiser and Emperor of Austria-Hungary. Recent days have brought a slew of reports to my desk stating that not only have the traitorous nations of Greece and Romania joined our enemies, but also the western outsiders, these “dough boys’ ‘ from the United States of America. They are putting too much stock in their effectiveness against true armies like the Germans and Austro-Hungarian legions. After much debate, the Kaiser has assumed supreme authority of both armies and is now employing defense in depth tactics to slow their assaults. The Russians themselves have been dealt serious blows by the German raids and their usage of chemical weapons. The western front, however, is a different story. Multiple accounts are flooding in, stating that the enemy has amassed hundreds of thousands of troops on the Belgium border. I dare them to violate Belgium’s neutrality, only to see them earn themselves another enemy to fight

Ottoman Empire 8 1917

Time is a slow and steady march that cannot be interrupted. The year itself has felt like an eternity of planning, complemented with small skirmishes. The western front remains unchanged except for a few hundred extra American troops in France and their ships in the North Sea. The east has also grown quite in anticipation of what is to come. The Russian army has been stalled in their advance for weeks due to the German gas raids and ambushes. What worries me is that there are sightings and reports of mass troop movements from Romania, Greece, Serbia, and Italy. It seems as if the demon’s plan to encircle us before the killing blows from all sides. I may not have been born, raised, and lived in central europe, but I dare those fools to try in storm the great mountains of the Austro-Hungarian empire, I dare those fools to even try and sack the German Empire, I DARE THEM to even make a move against a hardened army the likes the world has ever seen.

Ottoman Empire 8 1918

The year of 1918 is one for the history books. Though I write this when peace has been made between the nations of Europe, I cannot help but to reflect on what has occured. The year started with literal bang by the Kriegsmarnie when they tried to surprise the allied fleet in the Atlantic Ocean. God bless the souls who died upon the high seas fighting for the nation. Surprisingly the year escalated in terms of excitement with a full assault by the Italian and French armies. Oh how they fell to the storm of German lead and steel upon the high mountains of southern europe. From that point forward, there was none to stop the German conquering of Serbia and Romania. Serves those traitorous fiends for refusing to join in the glory of the Ottoman Empire. Oh how it would have been wonderful for the empire to be retaken by our allies, but alas an armistice was signed between the Kaiser, Emperor of Austria-Hungary and the Entente. We were that close with reuniting our people under the sign of strength in our empire. I know not what the future holds for those of us still alive, but there is talk of a rising politician in the homeland. I believe his name was Ataturk. If a man wishes to try and reform an age old system, tha I wish all the luck in the world.

WWI Simulation Student Journals: Romania and Japan

Romania Journal

Romania, Period 8, 1913

I fear for the events to come as countries are beginning to turn their backs on one another. Divided in two, the Allies are determined to overtake the Central Powers and vise versa. However, I side with neither. My small size army is no match for those such as Russia and the Ottoman Empire who bear great numbers of troops. With the location of my country as a barrier between Russia and it’s remaining allies, I worry they will try to either invade or negotiate for our sacred land. Although, due to the lack of numbers, it is safest for my country to avoid conflict with either side and will choose to remain neutral. The last thing we need is to be stripped of even more land after already having Bessarabia taken from our hands…this war might be the perfect distraction for us to claim what was once ours.

Romania, Period 8, 1914

Tensions are beginning to fume all across Europe, making it difficult for me to remain neutral. Just in case, I’ve mobilized troops in the scenario anyone challenges our peace. Several negotiations with great benefits have been proposed, however I must respectfully decline for now. Germany has thrown a curveball, messing up my plans to retain land that was once mine. This calls for a new plan of action. When the time is right, Russia’s large numbers in troops combined with mine will be extremely vital. They help me to recapture land, as I provide them with new blood and territory.

Romania, Period 8, 1915

Another year of avoiding conflict down. My ultimate goal of retracting old land is slipping further and further away from our fingertips as the Central Powers are moving too close to comfort. Their large numbers paired with their outrageous ability is intimidating as they could easily conquer Romania, leaving us with nothing. I can’t do this war alone. I predict my time of peace is coming to an end. I will need the help and protection of the Allies to remain in this war.

Romania, Period 8, 1916

New year, and a new stance in this war. I have strategically become one with the Allies for the greater good of my country. Talk of our country back-stabbing peace with the Central Powers lingers. I fear this anger may result in war between Romania. In defense, we have called for reinforcements. Our good ally, Great Britain, has agreed to station troops within Romania, creating a fear factor. This must’ve worked as the Central Powers backed down. Romania stands tall and even more powerful than before with additional help from Great Britain, as well as  the mobilization of our army. Even though we bear numbers, we lack strength which will prevent us from establishing A3 from the all mighty German forces. Hopefully with a little convincing and planning, the rest of the allies will back me up to retain this land.

Romania, Period 8, 1917

As the war has continued on, our outlook as a country has evolved. Suddenly, it’s about more than just Romania; it is about working together to defeat the Central powers and restore order in the world. Our initial goal of using the neighboring countries to achieve what we want, land, has become more. As we’ve gotten closer to our allies, we’ve formed a bond. Therefore we are willing to provide assistance in any way for the good of the group. In addition, we’ve distributed troops to territories as needed or requested, and have been active in the planning process. We’ve captured the coast so our next move as allies is to work our way inward. We have them surrounded.

Romania, Period 8, 1918

Game over. Let this be a learning experience for those of the future: The only person you can truly trust is yourself. I had an uneasy feeling from the start about Russia…and I should’ve trusted my gut. “Just wait,” they said. “We’ll succeed together,” they said. Waiting is a fool’s game. I should’ve shoot my shot for R3 when I had the chance, but instead I was too loyal to my alliance. Although my military may lack in power, we had them taken in numbers. I would have rather died trying rather than die from a back-stabbing. Good luck to the remaining allies, and rest in peace to those troops that gave their lives. Romania forever.

Japan Journal

Japan, Period 8, 1913

After defeating Russia already, I feel we have gained their respect. Therefore, while still keeping a watchful eye on them, I feel it should be safe enough to side with them for the common goal: Germany. While we may lack in numbers of military aid, I feel our naval support will be of great assistance. With joined Navy forces, the Central Powers are no match for our fleet. They’ll never see it coming.

Japan, Period 8, 1914

The stakes are high as the Germans overthrew the Russian Navy. This makes my alliance with the allies even greater as they are now down Navy troops. However, we are able to make up for their loss. Although small in numbers, our navy will be a force to be reckoned with. Often overlooked and forgotten, it is the perfect opportunity for a sneak attack if it comes down to it…

Japan, Period 8, 1915

Victory is ours! Just as I suspected, our naval forces played a powerful role in defeating Austria-Hungary’s fleet. We couldn’t have done it alone: Combined forces with Great Britain, we annihilated the Central Powers Navy. Now, with complete control over Zone 2 of the Mediterranen Sea, it sets us up for success in the future. Germany and the remaining Central Powers can enjoy it now, but they won’t suspect us coming from the coasts.

Japan, Period 8, 1916

Although our part this year was slow, it doesn’t mean the rest of the action of the war has slowed down too. If anything, it’s picked up dramatically. After our victorious win over the Mediterranen, the waters have been at peace with no more naval battles. With no marmy to provide help on land, our country has been busy guarding the seas. I feel our great performance during battle has scared the Central Powers away from our navy indefinitely. However, we will still keep a watchful eye from the water, and are prepared for anything.

Japan, Period 8, 1917

The power in this war has taken a drastic turn. The once dominant Central Powers appear to be losing their drive as the Allies are beginning to occupy more land, due to their successes in battle. It appears that us Allies have the coast locked in. Our next plan of action will be to begin moving inward. Unless they call in reinforcements of the navy, I feel our role in this war is winding down as we have no army service to provide help on land. But we are still armed and ready for duty calls to help in any way to win this war.

Japan, Period 8, 1918

At last! This drawn-out war has finally come to an end! It’s tough to say who’s coming out of this with a victory under their belt as it appears the Allies and Central Powers are neck and neck. It’s safe to call this a draw. While we were obviously hoping to come out victorious, at least it’s better than coming out with a loss. I see this new balance of power as both a good and bad situation. Good in which hopefully our nations can come together on agreements for a more peaceful world. However I fear this balance will turn into an even worse scenario as nations seek it as an opportunity to prove dominance and break the balance. Whichever way this goes, Japan is optimistic for the future and will be prepared. Meanwhile, we shall celebrate these long-waited times of peace!

Serbia 8 1913.

*A letter to the family of Nedeljko Čabrinović, the man who threw a grenade at Franz Ferdinands car and was captured by authorities after a failed suicide attempted.*

Our plan is complete. After months of planning and a good amount of luck, the Black Hand has killed Franz Ferdinand. We were astonished that the assassination was complete, and that once again Serbia and all of the slavs will finally become united again. I tried throwing a bomb in his vehicle, but was unsuccessful. I tried taking the cyanide to end my life, but for some reason that failed. I then jumped off of a bridge to escape, but was apprehended after I jumped into the water which  was only a few feet deep. The president now has to give a speech about how “shocked” our country is that he died even though we were the ones who killed him. Good riddance in my opinion. If Austria-Hungary is gullible enough to see through our deception it would be astounding. Though their president is prone to violence we’re hoping that he buys this and doesn’t try to attack us for I fear it may be the end of this great nation. Though we cannot rely too much on our allies in this we will probably end up needing their help to recapture our territory needed from Austria Hungary to unite the people that yearn to be Slavs once again. My sentence, as you probably know, is 20 years. It could have been much shorter given if my cyanide tablet had worked. Though it gives me the opportunity to see what me and my comrades have started and will allow the seed of our actions to blossom. Though my sentence is long I do not care because I know this Tuberculosis will take me instead of the Austro-Hungarians. This is why we did this in the first place, we had nothing to lose and everything to gain. I wish to see you all again someday and I miss you all very much.

With love, Nedeljko Čabrinović

*A 15 year old boy with a father who died in the Balkan Wars writes in his journal*

Hello Journal. It’s been 87 days since the passing of my father. I feel that every day the number moves up by, it seems smaller and the days start to form into one solid period of suffering and grief. Yet, at the same time, I have become accustomed to it, and it seems like it is all becoming normal, but worse than before my fathers passing. Today, I heard a man from the factory say that there may be another conflict happening soon. We have just ended the Balkan Wars a few months prior, so it seems so rushed that we may again be in another conflict. I discussed the news of this to some boys I work with, and they all told me that they would die to protect their countries, just like many of their fathers did before them. We may be a small country, many here have a sense of pride that large countries might not have. We are also very happy to have stayed allied to Serbia, as they have a great army that could help us. I fantasy the day I could be out helping my country and for the right people, just like my father before me.

*A Greek wife writing to her husband who moved to America to start a new life for them New York*

Rumors of a potential war are going on. We have just finished the Balkan War, and we came away well. We were lucky to gain a little land in the end, and are now a free country. But with this new war potentially happening, we are concerned that Bulgaria may want some of the land we, in a way, took from them during the Balkan War. If the war happens, it may give them the excuse to try to invade, which is not in our best interest. The president has tried offering peace in case of a war, but the offer is still pending. We have to remain neutral for now even though we have offers from both sides to join. I fear if we choose too early it will be the end for our country because the Serbs could come in from the North, or the Ottomans could come in from the East. Whatever happens though, we cannot let Bulgaria have the land our brave men fought for. It would mean they gave their lives in vain. My only wish is to reunite our family and move onto the next chapter of our lives in America. Our beloved 3 year old son Estevan asks when you’re coming home everyday. It takes all my strength to hold back tears and to tell him day after day that we’ll see him soon. We both miss you and love you very much.

*A letter to a Serbian soldiers fiance about the events that happened while he was in battle*

Hello dearest Anastasia,

The horrors I have seen since our great country mobilized are unimaginable. Poison gas, artillery, and the carnage are just some of the things I wish to get away from just to see your face. Austria-hungary decided not to attack us even though we assassinated their ruler. It was strange to be quite frank but i’m sure they have a higher goal in mind. Our allies are trying to push up to the German border in hopes of defending themselves. The British Navy is even moving down to fight the Ottoman navy in hopes of eventually taking the Eastern part of their territory. I just hope they can get to us quickly before Austria-Hungary decides to attack us. We hope to employ Italy to help with our naval and ground assaults for the extra man power. It would also allow us to move troops easier through them. Our army is very small so we’re going to take all the help we can get. Our plan so far is to sit tight and await for the support of the allies before we go on the offensive. I will write back as soon as I can if I am not killed in a skirmish.

With love, Willhelm

*A letter from a general to his wife*

Dear Maria,

The war is starting to ramp up. We are getting reports that many countries are starting to mobilize troops, we even heard reports of a Austrian-Hungarian attack into Russia. Unfortunately, we are not able to train more troops, as we have very few able men to take from the population. Other generals are concerned about our positioning and whether or not we will get support from larger nations if we are to be involved in the war. We hope the allied nations will help us, but other than sending troops by sea, we will not be helped as we seem very isolated from the rest of our company. There will most definitely be action going on between Austria-Hungary and Serbia soon, so I fear it will be inevitable that something will happen to us. Maria, I may not have time to come home for Christmas, as this situation is starting to ramp up into the New Year. I hope the best for you and our daughter. Also please tell my mother to make my favorite dish for christmas, just in case I am able to make it home.

Sincerely, Stevan

*A telegraph from a greek soldier to his family*

Hello dearest family, it’s been about 6 months since I left for bootcamp and it is infinitely worse than anything I could ever imagine. I was continuously sore for the first 3 weeks but after that I got used to our workouts. The word around here is we’re preparing an army in case anyone tries to attack us, but we won’t be attacking any countries anytime soon. Our orders are to stay put and await further instruction. I hope this war either ends, or we get to see some action because it’s very boring around here. There isn’t much to do other than train or relax in our barracks, even that gets boring after a while. All in all I hope to get home soon to see you all again and don’t forget to feed my fish twice a day!

With love, Adrian

*Serbian Soldier sends a letter back to his parents after coming back from Bulgaria*

Dear Mother and Father,

We are victorious! Since the last I’ve seen you, we were attacked from the North by Austria-Hungary. Even Montenegro sent in some of their troops to aid us, I could only imagine the outcome of this battle if they had not supported us. I made friends with some of the Montenegrin soldiers, a man named Advan and I have agreed to open a bar together once this conflict ends and we both survive. Although this could be the drinks talking I think we could do it. After a long, brutal battle, we were successfully defended the home land and were able to spend that night celebrating. Sadly, many sacrificed their lives to be able to still have the freedoms we still have today. A few days later, the Allies sent an attack on the Ottoman Empire, and Bulgaria sent every single one of their troops to defend the Ottoman Empire. It was a huge mistake on their end because it allowed us to move in and take control of their country. We plan to leave a small army to keep it under our control.

See you soon, Hanz

* Montenegrin commander filling in his battalion about helping Serbia when they were attacked by Austria-Hungary*

“Listen up! You men are some of the best men I have had the privilege to command. This is why I have chosen you all for this arduous task. I know we don’t have the best budget, gear, or man power compared to our allies, but a chain is only as strong as its weakest link. I truly believe in my heart that with our help, Serbia will prosper another day and we go home knowing that we have saved countless lives. Not only the lives of the Serbian’s, but the lives of our families at home as well. The only thing I ask of you all is to fight as if these people were your own. Now, suit up and say your goodbyes, you may not see the person to your left or to your right once this battle is over. I thank you all, and God bless, may you live to fight another day.”

*A conversation between the foreign minister and the president of Greece about their stance in the war*

Foreign Minister (FM): “Mr President may I have a word with you?”

President (P): “Yes come in, to what do I owe the pleasure of this visit?”

(FM): “What exactly do you plan to do with us sir? Our people are worried about Germany and Austria-Hungary sweeping all of the Allied countries to the North and then conquering us next. I just want to know what you’re thinking. We can’t stay neutral forever.  Either the Allies are going to get to us first or the Central Powers will. We need to do something.”

P: “ I understand your concern, truly, I do. You have to stop looking at it from a strategic standpoint, and look at it from our point of view. As you know, our country is small and our army isn’t as good as it was thousands of years ago. We cannot afford to pick a side too early because if we pick the losing side, we are all doomed.

FM:  “Sir, we need to decide soon, The allies have already taken part of the Ottoman empire and are moving up to support Serbia. They need all the help they can get. Ultimately it’s up to you but we don’t know how much time there is for us.

P: “I know, I just need more time to think, weigh in all the options. Will that be all?

Fm: “Yes sir, that is all.”

 Serbia. 8. 1916.

* A Serbian soldier writes in his journal*

I don’t believe it, the Germans tried to strike a deal with Great Britain to turn neutral so the Allies could take out Austria-Hungary. By doing this however, it must have upset a higher power and Germany’s troops suddenly overthrew their leaders and joined Austria-Hungary’s ranks. Now Austria-Hungary controls the remaining Central Powers. This could be bad for the Allies because now they are all under one command. Some good news is that we have exterminated the Ottoman empire entirely and can no longer contest against us. We also gained Romania as an ally, we can use their manpower but I dont think their army is as good compared to the other Allied forces but we need everything we can get to even give Germany a fight. Germany also decided to move out of Russia after a deal they struck with Russia’s president. I’d be weary of their intentions, it seems like a trap. More to come soon, I just hope I stay alive to tell the tale.

Montenegro. 8. 1916.

*The president of Montenegro comments on the events of the war to the press*

“We don’t know why, but something or someone convinced the German army to overthrow their leaders and serve the Austro-Hungarians. This may have been because their leaders wanted to go neutral and establish a democratic monarchy. This isn’t good for the Allies, now that those armies are under one command it will be easier for them to coordinate attacks during this time. We don’t know anything else about this and were trying to get more information. In other news we have successfully taken the Ottoman empire over and have gained control of their land. This is huge for the Allies because it’s one less Central Power to worry about. We have also gained Romania as an ally in this war which is good because they have lots of troops to spare. Russia also struck a deal with the Central Powers to give them their land back but it would be wise not to trust them since they still are our enemy. That’s all in terms of news I will take no questions at this time thankyou.”

Greece. 8. 1916

* Greek president comments on the events in a press conference*

“The German army was merged under the Austro-Hungarian army after the leaders were overthrown when they accepted a deal with Great Britain which would let them pull out of the war if they established a democratic monarchy. This isn’t good for us because they are both really powerful armies and they have lots of troops that could easily sweep the Balkans if they wanted. In other good news the Ottoman Empire has been defeated for good after the Allies pushed them back to their last bit of territory. That’s one less country to worry about now. Romania has also joined the Allied forces, they have lots of troops to provide and they will accept their help with open arms as well as defend them in return. German forces have also moved out of Russia for some reason, not that it’s any of our business but I think it’s a trap for Russia and taking their advantage of eagerness to recapture lost land. More news to come and I will let you all know if the tide changes, thankyou and have a good night.”

* A platoon leader briefing his men about the new allies they’ve gained*

“Gentlemen, the Greeks have finally decided to join us in defending us against the unstoppable force at our border. I want you all to get to know each other as soon as possible so you can be coordinated in the event of an attack. They may not have the best army but it will take everything we have to stop the enemy from taking over our beloved country. However, do not be afraid. We will solve the age old mystery about what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object. We gentlemen, are immovable objects. Company dismissed.

*A telegram to the Allies about Montenegro’s strategy for the remainder of the war from the president of Montenegro*

As you all know, we are a small country with limited manpower. The battle we helped fight in Serbia has left our forces very weak and depleted. We feel that it’s in our best interest to not aid in any other engagements to ensure that we have all the help we can get in case of attack on our homeland. However, we are willing to help the allies in any other ways possible like allowing them to send troops through our country to attack. Let it be known that we still have the allies best interests at heart and will fight if truly needed, but for now we must regroup so we have at least some defense. We apologize for any inconveniences this may have caused.

Signed, President of Montenegro

*The President of Greece addressing his people about his decision on their position in the war*

My people. I know that some of us may have different views about our stance in this great war, but there comes a time where we need to pick a side. We can no longer stand by and watch as the Allies, who supported our independence, fight on our behalf and sacrifice their people for the greater good of everyone. We no longer have to worry about attacks from Bulgaria, for the Serbians have taken control of it in Bulgaria’s defeat in their failed attempt to support the Ottoman Empire. I know some of you may be scared, you wouldn’t be human if you weren’t. We must remember our roots and fight like our lives, and the lives of our loved ones depend on it. Because they do. Just like the 300 Spartans did against the colossal Persian army so long ago. That being said, I have dispatched our entire army to Serbia in hopes of aiding them along with the Allied armies to hold the line against a possible attack from Austria-Hungary. This may sound like a bad decision but with the coup in Germany it means that Austria-Hungary is in command of the entire German army as well as their own. It’s all or nothing at this point. If we lose, we go down with honor just like our ancestors. If we win, we celebrate like there is no tomorrow knowing we lived up to our reputation. As Alexander the Great once said “There is nothing impossible to him who will try.” Not only do we intend to try, we intend to succeed. Thank you, and may the might of Zeus shine down and aid us through this troubling time.

* The Serbian president is allowed to address his people one last time at gunpoint from a soldier of Austro-Hungarian army*

“My people, I want to first thank you all who put me into office. It has been a pleasure to lead you in before and during this time. My only regret is that our men and Greeces men were not enough to hold down our precious homeland. I want you all to hold on longer, i’m sure in time there will be a day where we will gain our freedom once again and be free from the control of these Austro-Hungarian pigs!”

* The president of Montenegro addressing his people about what happened in the final days of the war*

“Ladies and Gentlemen, I have some terrible news to share with you. My friend, the leader of Serbia, was shot after Austro-Hungarian forces took over the capital and the whole country. He was the one who pioneered our goal of uniting all of or Slavic brothers and sisters that yearned to be whole again. However, his efforts will not go unnoticed, in these final years of the war he managed to unite Greece with us. He accomplished our goal partially, but it was up to us to finish it. We could not, we didn’t have the manpower, for that I am sad. But we must celebrate what we have achieved and be thankful that we have not suffered the same fate as Serbia.”

Greece. 8. 1918

*The Greek president addressing his people about the loss of their army in Serbia*

“I know what you’re all thinking. Why did we send our whole army to defend a neighboring country when we could defend ourselves now?” I have come to the conclusion that if we had not put our full efforts into the cause of uniting our Slavic people that we may have never done it at all. However, we tried. Like I said last year as we were joining the war, we would die with honor as or ancestors did long ago. Every single one of those soldiers died with honor and made their ancestors proud. We gave it our best effort but it simply was not meant to be. My condolences go out to the families of the soldiers who laid down their lives for our cause. I thank you all and for your time and God bless.

France 8 1913

The start of World War 1 is going to be a fierce battle among many countries. To begin, as a leader of France, I will make and honor an alliance with montenegro. I want to mobilize our troops on the border of Germany to regain Alsace and Lorraine from Germany. This will bring on a rush and worry for the Germans. Our strategy for this will be to remain as an alliance to Russia and Great Britain. Looking at the intelligence report, we have noticed that the Allied powers dominate in numbers, but we fear that our strength might be weaker than the central powers. From this, we know that from now on we need to be smart in placement and the amount of our troops.  We have come to the decision of forming an alliance with Belgium and Montenegro. We believe that this strategy will be in our best interest to keep our country safe from the horrific events that could occur. As I am going to begin by making big moves to help stabilize France and to begin the journey of my objectives. In class tomorrow, the central powers will more than likely declare war on the allied powers. For us, we plan to stay as close to our allied group as possible. We plan to stick with our alliance and make every decision as a team. By doing this, it proves our loyalty to the other countries in the Allied Powers and hopefully set us all up for success as a whole power.

France 8 1914

Today was finally the “start” but a slow start of the intense battle of World War One. After meeting with the Allied group at the start of class, it is successful to say that we came up with a good plan as a group. Although we know the central powers are beginning to use good strategies, as the France president I believe the allied group is on the right track to success. The strategy that both myself and my foreign minister put into place today was to keep our troops on our land to help defend our country. We defended borders vs. the coastline because we did not fear there would be any danger coming from the West side. This would help ensure our country to be as secure as possible. We began to prepare our troops to be sent to the Ottoman Empire in hopes to conquer that territory with our allies. We will travel with Great Britain troops and work as a team to achieve this goal. As an alliance, we felt defeated seeing Russia take on their first battle with a loss. However, we will not let this result get to us in our next battles, and better yet, we will become more successful from this. Both the foreign minister and myself were anxious to hear about the joining alliance with Italy. We know they have a lot to offer, including an inside look on the central powers. We know that as we move on with this journey, we will continue to be focused on succeeding our tasks, but also be aware of what is going on around us. I am proud to be a part of the allied group.

France 8 1915

This is the day that we finally started to see some action. There were many eventful actions that occurred within all countries from the allied group. As the president of France, I saw participation from everyone working together to help each other out. The strategy we put into place today was focused more on helping other countries defend, because we did not fear anything happening to France. Seeing the action plans so far of the central powers, does not have us worried about what could happen in the future. For the first time we transferred our troops into one of our allied countries Italy, this is when things started to feel more real. Both myself and the foriegn minister began hinting that Austria-Hungary was planning an invasion, so it was in our best interest to move our troops to Italy. Our prediction was right, and as an allied group, we were able to defeat the central powers. One of our biggest strengths in 1915 was our ability to use poison gas, which became in our best favor to win the victorious battle. The decision of the central powers to not use poison gas, was a poor decision on them, but for the allied group it was the key to winning. With the poison gas, we were able to help Serbia defeat Austria-Hungary once again. The most significant event that we have been planning for, for two years, was the opportunity to take over part of the Ottoman Empire, as well as Bulgaria. As the president, I don’t see the next coming years being easy, but from the fight our allied group has put up with so far, I definitely see more success coming.

France 1916

Wow! This year began with a bit of a threat towards the central powers. At the beginning of class, there was a meeting called within the allied power. We as a group decided to sign a peace treaty. Both myself and my foreign minister were unsure about this plan. Our reasoning behind signing the treaty while still being unsure, was because we didn’t want to cause conflict within the powers from disagreeing from the rest. Looking at our objectives, we could’ve put three of our objectives in danger. Signing this treaty put Germany in a frantic worry, causing them to get taken out. France focused on the strategy of moving troops to other countries in the hopes of helping to defend. We were eager to hear about the alliance with the United States. We have high hopes that this will help us get Lorraine and Alsace back, so we can achieve our objective. The Germans began to worry us with their movements, but as time went on, we no longer felt terrorized. We feared that with the amount of troops they had, they might try to take over some of our territory. With this being said, we made sure to get the best advice from our allied group on what to do in this situation. Romania also made an alliance today, so we decided to send our troops there from the Ottoman Empire. This will help us achieve our plan of attacking Austria Hungary.  Although the central powers have lost some countries, we are starting to see their strategies become stronger. As the president of France, this means that my foreign minister and myself need to start making the best decisions, that won’t put our country, nor our objectives in danger, as this war is coming to an end. I have high hopes of what we can accomplish in these last coming years, but we will definitely need to put our mind to the task, if the allied power wants to succeed.

France 8 1917

Our time of World War One is almost coming to an end. It’s year 17, and it’s just now really starting to become hostile between both the Allied Powers and the Central Powers. At the beginning of class the allied power called a meeting and discussed our possible strategies, as well as our possible outcomes. We decided that our center of attention will be to make sure we are successfully reaching our objectives. For us, we are focusing on this year being a total preparation year. Our goal is to get our troops back to France, to get ready to take on Germany. Looking at the intelligence report, Germany has a high amount of troops, and their troops rating is suspected to be very high. Will we be able to defend them in battle with these occurring numbers? As of right now, looking at our troops there could be a good chance we may be able to conquer this task, but it will definitely be our biggest battle to date. We have troops placed in multiple different countries, hoping that this will help us secure the battle. Since forming an alliance with the United states, we have settled our plan that we will both go for G2. Our plan is that this agreement will help us gain our fifth objective as a success. We Allied Powers definitely have some ideas up our sleeves for the next coming years. We will continue to strive in our very last year of war, and make history right here. See you in 1918 with a victory!

France 8 1918

Hello all, the president of France speaking here. The time of World War One has finally come to an end. From all the tough decisions, endless worries, and emotions, we made it. This year brought upon a lot of worry and quick decisions from the allied power. This was our chance to show the central powers our achievements, as well as our goals we have been working towards. Last year, we questioned ourselves about Germany, and this year we were able to see that answer firsthand. One of our major attempts during this final year was to plan an attack with the United States. The end result of this would have been ground breaking, but sadly time got away from us. Our mission was to move our troops to form an attack on Germany. We got devastating news from the head table that the allied powers would not be able to perform a turn. We quickly rushed to make a group decision on what to do, but unfortunately there was nothing left that we could do. From this situation, we were angered that we were unable to achieve our sixth objective, even though we fought very hard for it. As the president, I am astonished by the work that the allied power put in. Although the outcome wasn’t what we expected, we fought the battle to the very end, and never gave up on our way there.
